Workshop ticket: £25

Barry Harris was a legendary jazz pianist and educator who was famous for sharing his knowledge on the bebop tradition. Practically leaving behind the conventional system of keys and chords, Barry developed an approach – based on techniques used by big band arrangers in the 1930s – to chords, chord relationships, melody and improvisation, that is key to understanding the bebop language.
His approach is called the 6th diminished concept, and during the session we will look at the 6th diminished concept from the ground up, exploring the range of possibilities it throws up with regard to the jazz standard repertoire.
Jargon aside! This will be a practical workshop, lots of playing and opportunities to explore this wonderful concept. An absolute must for improvising musicians.
