Join us for an intensive, hands-on, 4-hour workshop centered around Duke Ellington and Juan Tizol’s legendary jazz standard, “Caravan.”
This workshop breaks down the barriers of improvisation. It provides musicians of all backgrounds with a clear, structured roadmap to confidently solo, comp, and groove over one of jazz’s most iconic and exotic tunes.
What We Will Cover
The session is split into focused, practical modules designed to build your skills step-by- step:
• Melody: Learn how to interpret and phrase the hypnotic melody of “Caravan,” moving beyond the written notes to make it swing. • Harmony: Demystify the song’s famous shifting chords. You will learn the secrets of the dominant phrasing, the minor resolution, and how to navigate the bridge.
• Rhythm & Groove: Master the transition between the driving Afro-Cuban/Latin groove of the A-sections and the hard-swinging B-section.
• Improvisation: Discover accessible improvisational frameworks. We will cover goal note soloing, using the harmonic minor scale, and building rhythmic tension and release.
