February’s Play Jazz! Workshop will take an in depth look at Sonny Rollin’s Tune ‘St.Thomas’ and Cosuelo Valasques’ ‘Besame Mucho’. While both tunes come from the latin jazz repertoire, they are very different in feel and tonality. During the afternoon we will learn both tunes from the bottom up, discovering the harmonic language that underpins each, and develop practical exercises and aural awareness to enable us to navigate these great tunes effectively, and many more besides!
With an emphasis on playing and improvisation, the session will cover aspects of harmony, melody and rhythm, and explore different feels, grooves, and tempos to make these great tunes accessible to all!
