This month’s PlayJazz! Workshop will focus on tunes with simple harmonic structures. With an emphasis on articulation and phrase design we will look at tunes such as Django Reinhardt’s ‘Minor Swing’, Howard’s ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, Kosma’s ‘Autmun Leaves’ and others to gain a full understanding of the basics of diatonic harmony.
Taking a step-by-step approach, we will look at chord construction, superimposition, and substitution techniques to enhance our options when navigating simple tunes. This is a great opportunity for anyone new to jazz wishing to bolster their improvising skills,
and for those with more experience looking to develop their improvisational vocabulary.
