Luis Verde is a striking saxophonist and curious mind at large, one of the most remarkable and distinctive contemporary jazz musicians of his generation in Spain. In this new project, Luis is drawing on years of experience leading forward-thinking ensembles, now distilled into a focused and agile trio setting, presenting a contemporary jazz language that blends sound-scaping compositions with fearless improvisation, enhanced by subtle electronic textures.
Aiming to delve into the possibilities of this formation through rhythmic interplay and sound exploration, Luis pushes the limits of structural convention with compositions that are bold, playful, and surprising. These original pieces serve as as vehicles for open-ended dialogue, blurring the lines between improvisation and written down music boundaries.
The trio features two distinctive voices from the European jazz scene: a renowned Dutch drummer, with a deep rhythmic vocabulary, and a sonic sensitivity beyond traditional jazz Mark Schilders, and the deeply expressive, versatile and fearless improviser UK-based bassist John Pope. Together, they intend to craft an engaging and unmistakably personal sound – marked by spontaneity, precision, and a deep commitment to expressive freedom.
“…[Luis] is, without a doubt, one of the greatest intellectual creators of jazz made in our country, a musician who uses his vast knowledge to move you.” “…as a composer he is a unique author, placing his scores both in reinvented passages of classical music and in the open domains of improvisation, the quality of the latter being multiplied tenfold when performed live.” – Pablo Sanz. Periodista (El Mundo) y crítico de Jazz.
