“The Low Line is a new band featuring experienced performers Afra Jurkiewicz and Joe Mansfield. Afra, a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist based in the Welsh borders came to the banjo, after performing on piano and accordion in Poland. Joe, a Bristol based strings player and singer, is best known for fronting Joe & the Temperance Two on fiddle.
The duo formed in 2024 to explore music traditional to the Appalachian mountains. Centring their work around fretless banjo and viola (both strung in special low tunings) the pair are drawn to the richness and depth of both the material as well as their instruments.
They will be supported by local duo What Humans Do – featuring Philippa Ogden and Max Vizard, who play a mixture of bluegrass and country on fiddle and guitar.
