As current Jazz North ambassador artists, John Pope Quintet features five of North England’s strongest young voices, with John himself a current Serious Music Take Five participant, earmarking him as a vital emerging voice on the UK jazz scene.
As an active UK improvising artist, John is deeply committed to the exploration of improvisation as a vehicle for both collective and solo expression. He has performed extensively as a soloist and in collaboration with internationally recognised artists including Joe McPhee, Evan Parker, Tony Bevan, Rhodri Davies, Alexander Hawkins, Cath Roberts, Paul Hession, Mick Beck, Han Bennink, Mariam Rezai, Beatrix Ward-Fernandez, Anton Hunter and many others.
In January 2021 the band release their debut album on the New Jazz and Improvised Music Recordings label based in Newcastle, and this concert represents the celebratory launch for ‘Mixed With Glass’.
John Pope (Double Bass)
Jamie Stockbridge (Alto Saxophone)
Faye MacCalman (Tenor Saxophone / Clarinet)
Graham Hardy (Trumpet / Pocket Trumpet)
Johnny Hunter (Drums)
This concert is presented by Jazz North East in association with Jazz.Coop at The Globe and Jazz North.
