Catherine has been dancing for 20 years after she was first introduced to Cuban salsa. She then discovered kizomba whilst on holiday in Portugal 15 years ago and immersed herself in the dance learning everything about the history and culture. Catherine has received kizomba teacher training from Iris de Brito (Angola) and started teaching in Cardiff as part of the Africalatina team along side Mazu Silva 14 years ago. Since then Catherine has taught regularly at local dance events and congresses and held a 3 year residency in Darlington where she introduced kizomba to the Voodoo Cafe. Her teaching style focuses on body movement and musicality.”

CREOLE CARNIVAL FROM HAITI TO THE UK

Gregory was brought up in Haiti, his mother’s land. Gregory’s love of music and dance started in his infancy, surrounded by the sounds and many rhythms you will find in in the Caribbean like Konpa, Zouk, Salsa & Bachata just to name a few. He has lived in Paris, New York and Miami, after which he traveled extensively, arriving in the UK in 2002.
In 2010, Gregory realised his dream of sharing his love of Afro-Latin and Caribbean dance, starting his own weekly night at the Voodoo Café in Darlington. Creole Carnival has grown from there, to include weekly Salsa/Bachata/Kizomba nights and big monthly parties!
