Ready to make your improvisation feel more rhythmic, connected, and alive? Find Your Pocket is a practical workshop for all musicians who want to explore jazz improvisation through the energy of funk and groove.
Together, we’ll discover how a compelling solo is built not only from notes, but from feel: the way a phrase sits against the beat, responds to the rhythm section, and leaves room for the music to breathe. Through guided exercises and ensemble playing, participants will develop a stronger sense of pocket and learn to turn simple ideas into expressive language. Using familiar jazz-funk repertoire, and static harmony exercises, we’ll learn to adapt our existing jazz/blues/folk/rock language to lock into the funk!
