Timmy Allan, from Paisley, is a rising star of the Scottish jazz scene. He studied jazz guitar and double bass at Birmingham Conservatoire where he won the Phil Miller Guitar Prize 2023. He went on to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he won the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the year 2024. He has played with Brian Kellock, Seonaid Aitken, Alyn Cosker, Paul Harrison, Fergus McCreadie and Joe Webb.
His first album, Water Games, is due for release in September 2026. The album takes direct inspiration from 20th century French composer Maurice Ravel’s piano piece “Jeux d’eau”. It comprises original compositions by Allan played by some of Scotland’s top jazz musicians Norman Willmore (alto sax), Paul Harrison (piano), Ali Watson (double bass), and Greg Irons (drums). The music holds one foot in the modern jazz camp and the other in the ambient post-rock encampment. Think improvisational playfulness paired with ambient water-like textures.
