Darlington’s genre-hopping acoustic outfit The Dead Seat fuse decades of regional music heritage into a high-wattage live experience. Born in 2017 and shaped by the North East’s pub circuits, they ditched electric gear for a raw, portable acoustic setup that refuses to sit still. Now a six-piece with keyboards and banjos, they’ve sharpened their sound into a fierce, spellbinding blend. Described as Alapachian-tinged blues meets Swamp Skiffle, their songs draw on the grit of early field recordings, the pulse of hand-clap gospel, and the rich, weathered harmonies of North East folk. The result is foot-tapping, head-bobbing, feel-good music delivered with energy, warmth, and unmistakable character. If you want a band with deep roots, big hooks, and a truly regional edge, The Dead Seat are the act to catch.
