Luis Verde (Alto Saxophone); Joe Steels (Guitar); John Pope (Bass); John Hirst (Drums).
Led by drummer and composer John Hirst, Blue Pearl are a quartet dedicated to reimagining the music of the seminal jazz pianist Bud Powell.
Drawing on influences as diverse as Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, and Bjork, they aim to uncover some of his lesser-known compositions and bring them to a modern audience, combining the more recent innovations in improvised music with a deep understanding of and respect for tradition.
