Ponyland are a head on collision of Psychedelic, Punk Jazz with pounding tribal drums. Expect galloping grooves that will make your legs rattle uncontrollably, and 110% raw energy!
Although this unhinged, masked menagerie are often cited as having to be seen to be believed, they may best be described as the bastard love child of Sun Ra and Lightning Bolt. Creating hypnotic interplay, entrancing the audience into fits of loose-limbedness. Think polyrhythms, syncopated beats, thunderous ritualistic drums, improvisation with punk scuzz. Their music explores the themes of community, the loss of cultures and changing society with a live performance that will break down the proverbial fourth wall between band and audience, and even your laptop screen.
“Fucking awesome gig” Big Geoff.
“Ponyland, who are truly mental. There is just no other way of saying it. Anyone who can splice reggae, jazz, drum & bass and afro-beat all into a live setting deserve an award, and that’s the end of it. If you haven’t seen these you literally NEED to!” The Rookery Collective
“I was taken on a journey down a path that I would probably have been tentative to walk down previously. I’d describe Ponyland as something I’ve never experienced before and their music was almost trance inducing” Spotlight UK
“They’re pulling to bits afrobeat, punk and jazz, without – and this is the important bit – losing the ability to keep hitting a glorious ramshackle groove.” The Crack
