Saturday 5 October: 13:30 – 17:00 at The Globe with Steve Glendinning
Workshop ticket: £25
The Globe is able to offer greatly reduced fees for some people to participate in its courses and workshops thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation. See below for more details.
After the success of September’s workshop, October’s Play Jazz! will explore another five classic standards from the swing, Latin and fusion schools of the Great American Songbook. During the session we’ll look in detail at groove and feel, keys, chords, recognising common chord progressions (both visually and aurally), and how to develop your improvisational vocabulary within the context of the jazz standard repertoire. The main focus will be playing in an ensemble, with an emphasis on improvisation.
Whether you play with your mates, are in a band, go to jam sessions; this workshop will provide you with all the tools to transform how you approach the American Songbook repertoire, and help you to understand the process of arranging a tune for performance:
using the elements provided by the tune itself to create new material for intros, outros, codas etc.
Prior knowledge of the repertoire is not essential, please feel free to come down and have a play!
(A full set list, music/charts will be sent on registration prior to the workshop)
