This month’s Play Jazz workshop will focus on Jerome Kern’s epic standard ‘All The Things You Are’. This is a must know tune for aspiring jazz musicians and mastery of it will open the doors to many other jazz standards. The workshop will take a detailed look at the harmony, melody and various grooves available to perform the tune as well as section by section exercises to develop a solid improvisational vocabulary. As usual, the main element of the workshop will be performance based, with lots of playing and many opportunities to navigate and explore the different sections of the tune, with particular attention given to soloing over a modulating chord progression.
This is a practical, performance-based workshop for all musicians who would like to develop their understanding of jazz harmony and improvisation techniques. You don’t need any formal knowledge or training, just a desire to learn and a love of all things jazz! (This is not an instrumental tuition workshop so players should have at least a basic working knowledge/proficiency on their instrument)
