Virtuoso guitarist, teacher and performer Andy Watt brings his exciting new band to The Globe with a varied and eclectic set including some of his own instrumental compositions and new arrangements of some old favourites from the world of jazz, blues and folk music on electric and acoustic guitar. Expect everything from Bill Evans to The Beatles, with strong influences from guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Robben Ford and Larry Carlton.
Andy has chosen three of the north east’s finest and most in-demand musicians to join him onstage for this project – Grace Alexander on keyboards (previously an associate musical director with Six The Musical,) Dan Rogers on bass guitar (who tours with The Unthanks, Gordi, Lulu James), and David Lourie on drums (who has recently been headlining UK festivals with singer/songwriter Liam Fender).
Andy is well known for performing and recording with folk legend Tom McConville and has previously toured with an array of top folk musicians including Chris Newman, Shona Mooney and Alistair Anderson. He is also the main guitar tutor on Newcastle University’s folk music degree course. This solo project showcases his interest in the role of the guitar as a lead instrument across a wide spectrum of genres and has grown from many of the arrangements he has shared over the past few years on his popular YouTube channel www.youtube.com/andywattguitar.
