Alexandra Raikhlina is a Moscow-born, young and exciting violinist with a passion for chamber music.
After moving to Belgium in 1990 she was Laureate of the Charles de Beriot competition in Belgium before being awarded a place at the Yehudi Menuhin School. Later she received a full scholarship to complete her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Alexandra has performed extensively as a soloist and a chamber musician in Belgium, England, Switzerland, Russia, Greece, Germany, Portugal and Hong Kong. Venues include the Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Fairfield Halls, the Sage Gateshead and Helbphilharmonie. She performed for the BBC Proms as part of the Composers Portrait programme broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Other radio appearances have included performances on BBC Radio 3 Free Thinking Festival.
Now resident in north east England, she holds the position of sub-principal first violin with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, and is also a frequent guest with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Manchester Camerata, Welsh National Opera, Aurora, Orchestre Les Dissonances and Brussels Philharmonic.
Alexandra has made a big impact since her arrival in Newcastle and was recently chosen as inspirational woman by the “Jesmond Local” for International Women’s Day. She is the Artistic Director of Brundibár Arts Festival based in Newcastle and Gateshead.
In this concert Alexandra will perform a varied selection of short pieces for solo violin. From Baroque sonority to contemporary glimpses, come and watch this fascinating programme of virtuosic violin classics.
